A Joy to Listen

Did you know that June is Audio Book Month? This is the time to take a seat, relax and listen to a nice and entertaining story. For some, it can be a chance to enter the world of make believe.

As technology advances, the standard definition of books is rapidly changing and more and more people are enjoying audio books. According to the Audio Publishers Association, audiobooks allow avid readers to multi-task in today’s fast paced world. Consumers can listen to audiobooks as they drive, exercise or cook. At the same time, audiobooks preserve the tradition of storytelling and can include narration, sound effects and music to make the overall reading experience more enjoyable.

Many people may remember Inspired By … The Bible Experience. This was an audiobook that received rave reviews, packed with an impressive cast of over 200 prominent African Americans. Inspired By … The Bible Experience was narrated by Angela Bassett, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Blair Underwood and Denzel Washington, to name a few.

With the size of the audiobook market to be estimated around $800 million (Audio Publishers Association), audiobooks are certain to remain a mainstay in the industry. So, during June and every month, let’s support the audiobook releases of African American authors. It will most likely be a joy to listen!
